Accidentally Hipster

I've always loved vintage furniture. I love the way furniture was made from solid wood, and it's qualities and imperfections sparkle from underneath the lacker. I love the way the furniture has had a life longer than mine, and often tells stories from its condition. I love the unique style and character, and how you will very rarely see your furniture in someone else's house. I love everything from glam, curvy, art deco pieces from the 1930s, to warm, straight-edged retro pieces from the 1950s. I'm even partial to a bit of 70s flower-power.

But I loved all this before it was cool. And now that I'm finally grown up enough to purchase a house, I find that, apparently, vintage is fashionable. Terms like "chabby chic" and "bohemian" are thrown around for anything that is slightly old and falling apart, and the good stuff, especially listed as "retro" or "vintage" is snapped up pretty quickly. Still, this makes a good find for a small amount of money all the more satisfying.

I am not a hipster. I don't like vintage furniture because it's the fashion. But, because I like vintage furniture, and now that I'm blogging about it to help others find their dream revival homes, I guess I have accidentally become one. So here I am. The accidental hipster. Day 1, Blog 1; and all I have to report is that I've just bought a house; an end of terrace victorian cottage, roughly 100 years old, with a fireplace in each room. The perfect canvas for my vintage modern hipster (but not a hipster) revival.

To be continued... :)
